Brian was born in Nigeria, Africa where his parents were medical missionaries. The family then moved to Richmond VA. He moved to Boone in 1982 to attend Appalachian State University.  After graduating, he owned a pet store for six years. He then continued working in sales for Verizon Wireless until he went into real estate in 2002.  Brian also manages long term rentals through Boone Area Management, LLC.  He enjoys riding his horses and spending time with his miniature mules, donkeys and dogs. Brian enjoys outdoor activities such as snowboarding, hiking, camping and fishing in Blowing Rock, North Carolina and the High Country.  


Jerry Starnes

Jerry, a native of Hickory, got his lifetime wish and moved to Blowing Rock North Carolina permanently in 2000. A graduate of UNC – Chapel Hill with a degree in business, Jerry continued his education at Emory University in Atlanta where he earned his MBA. Jerry began his business career as an auditor with the (now famous) Arthur Anderson auditing firm. His diverse interests led him to Texas where he managed sales of a steel distribution company for sixteen years. His last steel challenge was building a new Nucor Steel Division’s sales from zero to $500 million in eight years, including business relationships in China, Taiwan and Spain.  In Longview, Texas Jerry was in charge of building an Episcopal church sanctuary with stained glass windows, slate floors, and beautiful pipe organ. Jerry also had the pleasure of developing a specialty retail shopping village and was the first President of the Longview Tourist Bureau.  Jerry and his wife Genie, are members of St. Mary of the Hills Episcopal Church and Blowing Rock Methodist Church, the Jazz Society and the Blowing Rock Country Club. They can be found hiking, gardening, golfing, and have promised each other to learn to fly fish together!  Having lived in Texas for 20 years, their children graduated from the University of Texas in Austin. But for Genie and Jerry, North Carolina was always “home.”  Looks like Jerry will be torn between golf, fishing, and sharing his love of Blowing Rock North Carolina with real estate clients.  


Drew Taylor

Drew Taylor is a Boone native that loves the area and wants others to live here and see the benefits of Watauga County. A 1995 graduate of Appalachian State University with a BA in Marketing and a minor in History, he also played golf for the school and then professionally for three years. His family owned Boone Auto Exchange for almost 60 years where he operated a productive and honest business. Now selling Blowing Rock, North Carolina real estate he will continue to help locals as well as newcomers to the High Country enjoy what it has to offer with ethics and integrity.

Tyler J. Bryson

  Tyler is a sixteen-year veteran Blowing Rock agent who resides in Blowing Rock. He has consistently remained a Multi-million dollar producer from his very first year in real estate and has handled properties from $20,000 to $3,000,000!  While vacationing in the High Country, Tyler and his wife of 20 years, Malissa developed a true love for Blowing Rock. The beautiful mountains, wonderful town, good schools, perfect climate, and many outdoor activities, made this the perfect place to raise their three children. So, in November 1997, Tyler and Malissa packed up and moved to a better life in Blowing Rock.  While in Florida, Tyler worked with two 5-star resorts and gained extensive experience in the hospitality industry. Tyler’s love for working with people and his love for the fitness field, led him to a career in Fitness Training.  He attended both Palm Beach Atlantic College and Broward Community College completing prerequisites for physical therapy. In 1987 he completed Youth With A Mission’s Discipleship Training School, serving in missions in the Philippines. Later with an interest in fitness, he went on to attend the Fitness Institute; he completed several Fitness Training courses, earning several training credentials. Upon arriving in Blowing Rock, Tyler began a Personal Fitness Training Business, which he operated until committing to real estate full time.  The Bryson family attends church at Harvest House in Boone, and their children attend school at Watauga High School and Appalachian State University. Tyler enjoys time with his family, hiking, fishing, and snowboarding, as well as just being outdoors. With Tyler’s real estate experience and enthusiasm for the area, he is eager to help accommodate all your real estate needs.

Virginia Powell

If you spend much time in Blowing Rock, you have probably already seen Virginia. Curly, red hair.  Maybe with one to four of her kids in tow.  Often accompanied by her slow but sweet Bichon Frise, Jacques le Blanc.  She's a small town girl from Mount Olive, North Carolina and an UNC alumna.  Virginia's known to frequent Camp Coffee by Footsloggers, Bistro Roca, the Speckled Trout and Bass Lake.  When she is not helping people find their dream homes, Virginia tries to give back to our community by serving on the Middle Fork Greenway's Task Force and the Blowing Rock Town council.  She is also active in the Blowing Rock Methodist Church during the summers and the Boone United Methodist Church during winters.  Her husband Ben, is an entrepreneurship professor at Appalachian State University.




Michelle Kowalski

Michelle was born in Chicago, but grew up in Greensboro, North Carolina.  Upon moving to Boone to attend Appalachian State University, she instantly fell in love with the mountains. After working in Greensboro for several years following college, she took advantage of an opportunity to return to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Now a full time resident of Blowing Rock for thirteen years, Michelle enjoys running the Cone trails, mountain biking, hiking, yoga and spending time outdoors in this beautiful area.  She will work hard in either selling your house or finding you the perfect mountian home!

Michelle attends Saint Bernadette Catholic Church in Linville and is a member of the High Country Association of Realtors.  She lives in Boone with her husband and two daughters.












Richard Gray

Richard obtained his first real estate sales agent license in Long Island, NY while he was in high school. After graduation, he decided to pursue a career in banking.  His first job was with a large NY City bank as an office boy/mail page, where he learned the basics.  He later returned to Long Ilsand and worked in every position in a commercial bank, culminating with his appointment to President/CEO of the Bank of Long Island, in 1975.  He served as Chairman of the Long Island Division, New York State Bankers Association and President of the Suffolk County Chapter, American Institute of Banking. Richard moved to Florida in 1984 and became President/CEO of two Independent Commercial Banks. For 25 years he has specialized in real estate finance and SBA small business loans. Richard also served in the military, graduating from the US Army Command and General Staff College in 1970.  He served a total of 38 years in the Army Reserve, with his final assignments to the Office of Deputy Chief of Staff, Manpower, Budgets and Training, TRADOC, Fort Monroe, VA.  He retired as Lt. Colonel.Richard and his wife Carole have been coming to our beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains for over 20 years and now resides in Blowing Rock full time.  Richard's pride is that he is the father of three sons, grandfather of seven and a great grandfather of five! Carole Gray

Carole began her real estate career 27 years ago when she obtained her first license in Long Island, NY. Born in Aiken, SC, she attended elementary schools in Missouri while her dad was an officer in the army. She returned to South Carolina and graduated from Dreher High School in Columbia, then attended the University of South Carolina, where she earned a secretarial certificate. Then she later became a flight attendant with Eastern Airlines and was based in Miami and New York. Upon returning to Columbia, she became a representative with the SC Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism, which opened the first welcome center in South Carolina. She traveled throughout South Carolina and parts of Canada promoting tourism.

Carole has a daughter, Ashlie, a montessori school teacher in Miami Shores and a son Keith, who is a fireman with the Miami/Dade fire department. She has two grandsons, Peyton and Sam.

Carole moved to Florida in 1985 and became known as the first rollarblading realtor in Key Biscayne, selling luxury waterfront properties. She subsequently moved to Fort Lauderdale and was active in the sale of oceanfront and intracoastal luxury homes and condos.

Carole has owned a vacation home in the Blue Ridge Mountains for over 20 years and enjoys skiing, hiking, tennis and golf. She is now a full time resident of Blowing Rock and a member of the High Country Association of Realtors, the National Association of Realtors, the NC Assocciation of Realtors, Blowing Rock Art and History Museum, the Blowing Rock Garden Club and the Watauga Humane Society.

Chase Cranford


Chase Cranford has called the High Country home since moving to Boone in 2016 to pursue a Business Management degree at Appalachian State University. After graduating and getting married, he and his wife Samara have been leading a college ministry for Harvest House, a local church. He since has acquired an enthusiasm for real estate and is passionate about helping others find their home and build deep roots in the High Country, just like he and his family have. If Chase isn’t hanging out with college students or in the office, you can likely find him on the river fly fishing.
