There is a legend about the Blowing Rock - a Chickasaw  Chieftain brought his daughter to the Blowing Rock to be cared for by a squaw mother. While daydreaming on the cliff, she saw a Cherokee in the wilderness below. He courted her, and they spent many days together in the woodlands. When the Cherokee felt the need to return to his tribe in the plains, the maiden begged him not to go. Torn by the conflict, he leaped from the Rock into the wilderness below. The grief-stricken maiden prayed to the Great Spirit every day until one evening, a gust of wind blew her Cherokee back onto the Rock and into her arms.
